A Report on Online Mode of Students’ Union Election 2025–2026

Inspired by the “Digital India” initiative launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Sri Narendra Modi on July 1, 2015, Dibrugarh Hanumanbax Surajmall Kanoi College continues to lead in the digital transformation of the electoral process. The college successfully introduced a fully online voting system for the Students’ Union Election in 2021–22, establishing itself as a pioneer in India.
For the academic session 2025–26, DHSK College conducted its fourth fully online Students’ Union Election on 23-08-2025. The digital election system was first initiated during the 2017–18 Student Union Election, where students cast their votes physically on ten computers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, elections could not be held during the sessions 2019–20 and 2020–21.
This year, the entire election — including nomination submission, scrutiny, campaigning guidelines, voting, and counting — were executed on online mode using the college LMS platform. The objective of adopting an online process remains focused on saving time and resources, ensuring transparency, eliminating malpractices, and maintaining peaceful polling conditions on the campus.
A total of 10 (ten) students contested across 5 (five) portfolios, while 9 (nine) portfolios remained uncontested. The process began with a mock poll from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in the presence of all candidates and their agents, followed by official voting from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Out of 3861 registered voters, 2635 (68.25)% of students cast their votes using their verified mobile credentials.
The counting of votes was completed within 30 minutes after the close of Poll, the results were declared immediately. In a motivational gesture, the Principal appreciated the democratic spirit of participants and encouraged the candidates to uphold unity beyond the electoral process.The Principal, Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia, extended heartfelt thanks to all teaching and non-teaching staff, and the entire student community for their dedicated effort in ensuring smooth and peaceful conduct of the election.
