About AISHE
AISHE stands for “All India Survey on Higher Education.” It is an initiative launched by the Government of India’s Ministry of Education (formerly known as the Ministry of Human Resource Development) to collect comprehensive data on the higher education sector in India. The primary objective of AISHE is to gather accurate and reliable statistical information on various aspects of higher education institutions (HEIs) across the country.
The AISHE survey collects data on a wide range of parameters, including infrastructure, enrollment, programs offered, faculty, research activities, and finances of higher education institutions. This data collection process helps in understanding the current state and trends in higher education, identifying gaps, and formulating policies and strategies to improve the quality and accessibility of higher education in India.
AISHE data is used for various purposes, such as policymaking, planning, monitoring, and evaluation of higher education initiatives and programs. It provides valuable insights into the enrollment patterns, demographic profiles of students, gender parity, geographical distribution of institutions, and other important metrics related to higher education in India. This information is crucial for policymakers, researchers, educators, and other stakeholders in the higher education sector to make informed decisions and take necessary actions to address challenges and promote the growth and development of higher education in the country.
