Student Union 2023

Adopting the concept of “Digital India” introduced by honorable Prime Minister of our country Sri Narendra Modi on 1^st July 2015, we the Dibrugarh Hanumanbax Surajmall Kanoi College introduced the online procedure for the Students’ Union Election 2021-22, probably for the first time ever in India. This year also we have conducted Students’ Union election 2023-24 through online mode on 12 October 2023 for the third time. However, the digital mode of election process was initiated by our college in Students’ Union Election 2017-18 for the first time. Ten (10) computers were used and the students casted their votes physically on the computers. Due to the disastrous impact of Covid Pandemic, the Students’ Union Election was not conducted for the session 2019-20 and 2020-21. This is the third time that the election process was conducted fully through the digital mode by using LMS software starting from submission of nomination, scrutinization of nominations, vote casting and counting of votes. The prime objective to conduct election through online mode is to save time, money and labour, to make the process transparency and peacefully. A total number of 15 students contested against 7 different portfolios. Voting procedure started with mock poll in the presence of all the candidates and their agents. The mock poll was conducted between 9 to 10 am, followed by casting of votes from 10 am to 2 pm. Out of the total 3240 students, 2461 students (75.96%) casted their votes through their registered mobile number. The result of the election declared within half an hour after completion of the casting of votes. It is worth mentioning that the principal requested the defeated candidates to offer certificates of appreciation to the elected candidates of the respective posts. The principal, Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia expressed gratitude to the president of Governing Body- Mr. Abhimanyu Boruah, Vice-Principal- Dr. Priyadev Goswami, Academic Coordinator-cum-Presiding officer of Students’ Union Election- Dr. Ananta Kumar Dutta, Senior Professor Dr. Mridul Sarma and System Developer- Mr. Kakul Bezbaruah. The principal also expressed gesture towards the teaching fraternity, employees and the students for supporting to conduct the election smoothly and peacefully.
